Microbubble-microplastic interactions in batch air flotation

چکیده
Presence of microplastics in waste streams and the environment is a challenge much recent concern. Bubbles are used for solid–liquid separation froth flotation dissolved air (DAF). Bubble-particle interactions key understanding removal efficiency particulates. Limited studies provide in-situ characterization particle size distribution, shape concentration before after flotation. The use microbubbles to specifically remove has not been extensively investigated. This study presents batch method assess spherical polyethylene (PE) non-spherical PE, polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microplastic different densities at 10–600 µm range with 50–110 sized microbubbles. In-situ image analysis allowed measuring shape, solution prior as well capturing particle-bubble micro-scale. Besides determining performance sizes, shapes types, effect surfactant ionic strength was investigated discussed relation collection efficiency. provides important quantitative results on bubble-particle interaction that allow selective from straightforward direct visualization tracking characterizing micrometer-sized particles solid–liquid-gas multiphase media.

Improved algal harvesting using suspended air flotation.
Current methods to remove algae from a liquid medium are energy intensive and expensive. This study characterized algae contained within a wastewater oxidation pond and sought to identify a more efficient harvesting technique. Analysis of oxidation pond wastewater revealed that algae, consisting primarily of Chlorella and Scenedesmus, composed approximately 80% of the solids inventory during th...
متن کاملOptimizing Dissolved Air Flotation Design System
Dissolved Air (Pressure) Flotation-DAF, is a well-established separation process that employs micro-bubbles as a carrier phase. This work shows results concerning bubble generation at low working pressures in modified DAF-units to improve the collection of fragile coagula by bubbles. DAF of Fe (OH)3 (as model) was studied as a function of saturation pressure in the absence and presence of surfa...
متن کاملRethinking Dissolved Air Flotation (daf) Design for Industrial Pretreatment
Dissolved air flotation (DAF) has been used with increasing frequency in recent decades for the treatment of industrial wastewater. Advances in the technology have expanded the range of applications for DAF; however, engineers and designers frequently use outdated and insufficient design data to design and specify DAF systems for industrial pretreatment. Discussions of advances in DAF design ar...
